Starman's story

Starman has been on my mind a lot lately.  We lost him last March and the memory of that time weighs on me.  I've been working on "his story" and I posted it today as a separate page.  You can click on it at the top of my blog.  A year later, I still get emotional about him.  The other morning I woke up thinking about him and lay in bed awhile, with tears sliding down my cheeks, before getting up.  That evening, Camille called me and said she had dreamt of Starman and in her dream, was crying.  I thought it was time to write his page.

Starman may have left us physically, but he is still living in our hearts.

  1. A few months ago I lost a horse I loved deeply as well. That's the hard part about owning horses, it really hurts when they're gone.

    Sorry for your loss.

  2. Thank you for posting that - I expect it was hard to do, although good too, in a way. He sounds like a special horse and you were very lucky to have had the chance to know him.

  3. I read the story of Starman. Seems to me that you were meant for each other. It's hard to lose your best buddy and so understandable that you would have tears rolling down your face thinking about him. He was a sweetheart and your daughter is gorgeous! The way I look at it, we were lucky to have these horses in our lives...I'm sure he knew he was loved. I have lost 5 over the years, and another that was not mine, but lived here for many years.
It's never easy, but they were so worth every minute I had with them.
It's ok to have moments like that...you cared!

  5. I'm teary eyed just reading his page. What a great story. I'm so glad you found one another and had those great years together. The pictures and stories of him with the miniature donkeys are adorable.

  6. There is a special place in Heaven for horses like Starman and all the others we have loved and lost. Schoolmasters, packers, best friends--whatever the term, they are here to teach us things and then they move on. I agree with Rising Rainbow: This IS the hard part of owning horses ... of owning any animal, really. We are blessed to have them in our lives.

  7. I have tears in my eyes after reading his story. You told it beautifully and I think it was so wonderful that he finally was able to get the home that he wanted--and in a way he did seem to make it happen on his own :) Your love for him showed in your words. Thank you for sharing!

  8. What a lucky lucky boy Starman was to live his last years with you. I am so sorry for how difficult his goodbye was-how heartbreaking for all of you. I hope you can focus on how much love and goodness there was in his life for so many years. He is lucky that he is still missed...it shows how much he was loved.
    Sending lots of hugs,
