Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater

Our chickens love pumpkin.  When I'm done using our pumpkins for decoration, and when we're tired of pumpkin soup and pumpkin seeds, I give the remaining pumpkins to the chickens.

They start out like this, with just a few holes pecked here and there.

Once the flesh is exposed, the chickens get serious about eating.

...until this is all that's left.

Why eat scratch when you can have pumpkin??

  1. That's great! Love the before and after shots.
I've never had any animals here that like pumpkin, not my horse, llamas, goats, and not even my chickens.
The kids used to carve our pumpkins outside for Halloween with the hopes that the chickens would clean up the scraps, seeds and "guts", but they would peck a little and then turn up their little beaks and request something else, please.

  2. I love how your pumpkins find a way to keep on giving 2 and 1/2 months later!

  3. The breeder I got our goats from gave pumpkins to the goats. She said the pumpkin seeds also contained a good natural wormer.
