Happy Hour

Brett and I sit on the front porch with a glass of wine in the evenings, after doing the chores and before I make dinner.  On work nights, we eat pretty late -- often at 8:30.  On really hot days, we eat first and then do the chores when the sun goes down.  Brett can work in the heat but I can't; I get light headed and nauseous and have been known to pass out.  So, I just don't go there.

Last weekend, Brett bought a bench at one of the local wineries.  Not any bench, mind you; this love seat was made from a wine barrel.  The seat is stained with the red wine -- it's beautiful and very comfortable too.  We decided to put it under the largest oak, one of the two oaks that frames the front of the house.  Brett didn't want to put the love seat (which has very cool wine glass holders built into the arms) on the dirt.  So he built a pad.

He pulled up bricks from the front yard.  We have no idea what the original purpose was of these bricks and their presence has bothered Brett.  This was his excuse to pull them up.

He framed the pad, made sure it was level, then added sand and concrete mix before laying the bricks on top.

He started on the project Monday.  When I got home from work, he was busy cutting brick.  I sat in the love seat and talked to Camille on the phone.

The bricks are a reddish color and complement the love seat perfectly.  There is room for the two of us to sit with Kersey comfortably sprawled at our feet.

Happy hour is happy indeed.

  2. That is a welcoming spot to sit. Good job!

p.s. one of the baby goats is Cocoas. The other two are Sages. More on that in another post.
