Another Hawaii Ride

The north part of Hawaii is cattle country.  The volcanos are older there and not active.  Grass covers the black volcanic rock and cattle get fat on the grass.  We spent an afternoon riding at one of the cattle ranches there: Paniolo Ranch.  The tack room was immaculate and the horses well fed and sleek.

It was cool and threatening to rain so we were provided with oil slickers to keep us dry.  We were quite the styling couple, don't you think?

They had picked out a big Belgian draft horse for Brett and a spunky appaloosa cross for me.

We rode across the cattle pastures, towards the ocean, weaving around outcroppings of volcanic rock.

We were able to canter along the cattle roads when we came across them.  My horse had a wonderful, smooth canter.  He would jig and hop around when he wanted to canter but he listened to me.  ...he very much reminded me of a certain appaloosa cross waiting for me at home.

If you ever get to Hawaii, I highly recommend this ride.
