Poor Kersey

As I mentioned in a previous post, Kersey really missed Brett last weekend.

And then there was the minor issue of me forgetting to feed her.  It was Saturday evening, and I was busy feeding the horses, and cleaning the stalls.  I topped of the horses' water, closed up the barn and headed back to the house.  I was wet and cold and thinking about a nice hot shower.

I wasn't thinking about Kersey.  Normally, Brett feeds her (I can blame him, right?) and I just got into my normal groove and forgot all about her.  When I got to the porch, I took off my rubber rain boots, slipped on my clogs and turned to go inside.  Kersey, was sitting in front of the closed barn doors, looking forlorn.

I called her.  "C'mon," I said, "its time to go inside and get warm."  She didn't budge.  I called again.  And then it hit me.  She was still waiting for dinner.  ...she gets dinner first, before the horses, so she can do her business afterwards, while we are doing everything else.

I clomped out to the barn in my clogs and fed her.  She thumped her tail and wolfed her dinner.  The nice thing about labs is that they finish their dinner in under a minute.  And, they don't hold a grudge.  If someone forgot to feed me, I would be pretty pissy.  Not Kersey.  Maybe there's a lesson there.

  1. Our dogs have very forgiving natures for sure. You're right about labs woofing down their food but Aussies are in the same boat. Before I put the food cup away she's got it all gone. I'm amazed at how fast they can eat!

    1. I think Kersey's (and most labs) motto is: All the world is a meatball.

  2. Man, our dogs are like the opposite of labs. Our malamute will let his food sit until he's ready to eat it. So weird.

    1. Sedona, the rescue Kuvasz mix, we had was the same as your malamute. We had to protect her food from Kersey because she (Sedona) would just pick at it.

  3. I've learned to call Hubby if I'm away, just in case.

    1. Brett said he's forgotten, too. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who forgets the poor dog.

  4. My jack russell terrorist will be licking an empty bowl within the minute. The cats prefer to pick daintily. (unless there is competition)

    1. We keep the cat's food in the feed room, with the door closed, so Kersey can't get to it. I think the cat only eats when she is bored.

  5. Our lab is the same way, she will let you know, very politely, when yo forget to feed her. Then, she gobbles it down in a milisecond. It's so easy to forget when you have lots of animals to feed and chores are usually divided up.

    1. Maybe they should be less polite? --perhaps they should grab the empty bowl in their mouths and bring it to us. I'm kind of dense sometimes...

    1. Yes, I did change the format a bit. I've used the same format since I began six years ago. I thought it was time for an updated look. ...a bit fresher, but not wildly different. Do you like it?
