Luek

Luek came to live at Oak Creek Ranch in early spring of 2020.  He is an Azteca gelding with quite a storied past.  He was offered to us after it became apparent that he could no longer sustain a heavy training schedule.  He is sound for light work and ready to ease into retirement.

How could we say no?  He is gorgeous, friendly and rock solid.  Sure, he’s a bit of a slug but I don’t need a race car (anymore).

Aztecas are a cross between a PRE or Lusitano and a Quarter Horse.  They are the national horse of Mexico and were first bred there in 1972 — so a relatively new breed.  They are primarily used in western disciplines such as reining, sorting and team penning but also do well in dressage, polo and bull fighting.  They are compact, nicely muscled and have gorgeous hair.  Maybe Luek should have been named Fabio.

Luek is a very well trained horse.  He’s been trained to Prix St. George and was also a movie star.  Okay, not a movie star exactly, but a star in this nail polish commercial.  Brett is particularly impressed by his airs above ground.

  1. Wow, he is gorgeous & talented!! Love the video! Would be good to have an idea of what those "lift" related buttons/cues are, so as not trigger them. Although he is clearly very smart and will decipher intent. So glad Luek came home with you, after working so hard he deserves a soft retirement full of love & grins.
